The new TRITON press concept from Schuler

The TRITON – Future Press Concept is a modular series of mechanical presses with and without servo drives that offer tailored solutions for the premium segment. All TRITON presses are already Industry 4.0-capable and therefore ready for digitalization. Thanks to the many shared components, we can guarantee fast and efficient service.

Triton is updatable and therefore a guaranteed future-proof purchase decision. Using data-based IoT applications such as the Press Force Monitor or Lubrication Monitor, you have at your disposal a digital tool for increasing your machine availability. The direct access to sensor data via IO-Link as well as the use of the VDP image monitoring system makes analyzing operating statuses easy and reduces downtimes due to die damage. By analyzing the collected data it is possible to identify patterns that can be attributed to specific faults and their causes. This provides a basis for predictive maintenance.

Flexibilization in manufacturing

Many of our customers are faced with the challenge of having to make their press shops more flexible in order to meet the requirements on modern and complex production systems. Press shops are geared towards large volumes and mass production. Critical success factors like availability, performance, and quality must be maintained even for very small lot sizes. The setup costs as well as the frequency of changeovers and complexity of the dies are increasing.

Thanks to the possibility of consistent Schuler automation across all systems and components, we can ensure an optimal coordination of your overall system. From the coil line to the press right through to the conveyor belts: All components are designed for flexible use and automation.

To ensure a high part quality and long service life, the presses in the Triton series have a rugged design and a stiff structure. This leads to less bending and deflection as well as a reduction in the cutting impact and cleaner cut edges.

Different requirements globally

When a company has several locations around the world, the presses are often designed identically for cost reasons – even if this comes at the expense of local conditions and on-site acceptance. This is not necessarily required with the digital solutions from Schuler as the systems can now be networked with the central departments where their productivity can be monitored and they can be compared with one another.

Schuler operates production plants in, amongst other places, Germany China and Brazil and is therefore familiar with the different requirements for operating a manufacturing facility in these markets. Over 800 service experts at locations around the world can be reached 24/7 in the case of an emergency and be at the customer in next to no time. Thanks to their rugged technical design, Triton presses are not only easy to maintain, their components can also be replaced relatively quickly and easily.

Thanks to an intuitive menu system, operators will very quickly find their way around on the large and clearly laid out touchscreen for controlling the Triton presses. The labeling of the buttons below the display is based on e-paper technology and can therefore be switched to different languages – just like the controller itself – at the click of a button. The technical documentation has also been integrated into the visualization system.

Sustainable and resource saving

Press works are especially energy intensive to operate – they therefore create a corresponding large carbon footprint. Despite their heavy-duty pressure points and durable gearing in the drive train as well as digital applications, Triton presses offer a long service life, a low level of wear and tear, and lasting efficiency.

At the same time the high precision of the systems leads to an increase in accuracy of the products and, with the help of the digital tools, will start producing good products from the very first stroke.

The high efficiency of the drive train is a direct result of its low moment of inertia and the reduced friction achieved through the reduced-parts design. These benefit the energy efficiency as well as the Energy Monitor or the optionally available EcoForm Plus package for reducing the energy costs.

Retention of skilled staff

A shortage of skilled staff is becoming an increasing challenge for many companies in the industrial countries, in particular when it comes to the operation of presses.

Triton comes with numerous solutions that increase the usability of the system. The self-explanatory operation and easy-to-understand help in the HMI reduces the risk of input error very substantially.

Furthermore, the noise emissions of the Triton systems are significantly lower than comparable presses due to their high stiffness and the use of double helical eccentric gears. This, together with the high level of automation of the system and the numerous digital solutions, ultimately increases the attractiveness of the workspace at the press.

When programming the movement path of the slide, the “Optimizer” and “Smart Assist” tools integrated into the controller assist the operators with achieving the highest possible output. The “DigiSim” simulation software optimizes the flow of parts as early as the die design phase in order to further increase the productivity. All these functions not only make the work of the employees in the press shop easier – they also give them the time to concentrate on what is essential: the quality of the products.
